Before lighting your campfire, make sure the area around your fire is cleared, have water available, carry a charged cell phone, request a burn permit from Greer Fire District, and call GFD before lighting your fire.
When you're done enjoying your time around the fire: DROWN, STIR & FEEL; make sure your fire is COLD & OUT. If you wouldn't let your child stand in the middle of the fire ring - it's not COLD & OUT enough!
As the Fall & Winter seasons approach, the weather gets cooler and fireplaces are put back into use and interior fires become more common. Before using your fireplace, have your chimney inspected and cleaned if needed. Make sure your furnace is inspected and cleaned as well.
If using a wood burning fireplace make sure ashes are COLD before cleaning and always place cold ashes in a metal bucket with a lid and then store in a safe place. AGAIN, Make sure ashes are COLD before you dispose of them. DO NOT DUMP ashes out on the ground.
The fire pictured below was caused by ashes that were dumped on the ground. Don't let this be you!
