Dan E Leeds Memorial Scholarship

Greer Fire District established the Dan E. Leeds Scholarship in 2017, in memory of Dan who passed August 7, 2014. Dan was instrumental in establishing the Greer Fire Department in 1971 and served on the board from its inception to his passing. This scholarship is for residents in Southern Apache County who are interested in a career in seeking Emergency Services (Firefighter, EMT/Paramedic & Nursing). As of 2024, a total of 9 scholarships have been awarded with 7 individuals sponsored. The other two went another direction with their Careers. The Greer Civic Association walk during Greer Days is the major sponsor for funding.

The Greer Fire District Auxiliary is responsible for vetting/interviewing candidates. Funding from Greer Civic Association 5K Family Fun Run allows individuals to achieve their educational goals and professional objectives. This funding has assisted students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue education in public service that benefits Southern Apache County, our community and the Greer Fire District. It is important to focus on building workforce capacity and workforce retention.
